Is Zero to Launch a Scam?

One Psychotherapist’s Brutally Honest Review of Ramit Sethi’s Zero to Launch Program

My #1 Fear Before Joining

My name’s Tiffany. I’m a therapist with  successful private practice in San Francisco, California. In 2015, I found Zero to Launch and my biggest fear was, “Is this a scam?!” I decided to join and find out.

How I Used Zero to Launch

I already knew the business basics from starting my own private therapy practice, but I wanted to go beyond just the one-to-one, fee-for-service model. I wanted to take my business to the next level.

My Results

Not only did ZTL give me the confidence to charge premium prices in my existing business, but I also learned how to build an entirely new business, grow my email list and generate income that is not location-dependent!

My Fears About Joining ZTL

I used to be a naturally skeptical person.

Sure, I followed all of the online greats – Marie Forleo, Pat Flynn, Amy Porterfield & so many more. Getting my master’s degree in Clinical Psychology gave me tons of education around how to help others change their lives, but it gave me zero education about how to actually get clients into my office. While I knew I wanted to invest in learning about building and running a successful business – online, as well as offline – whenever I imagined actually paying for an online program, I found myself wondering,

“Is this a scam?!”

Here I was wanting to learn how to create an online business that could impact hundreds (let’s be real, thousands of lives) by bringing what I learned about human psychology and behavior – and yet I was skeptical of those very people I wanted to become. The irony was not lost on me.

And then I encountered Ramit Sethi via one of the many podcasts I consumed and everything changed for me.

It was Ramit who offered me the ultimate challenge. I realized that if I really wanted to take my business to the next level, if I really wanted to have the confidence to charge premium fees and create real change in the lives of others, I’d have to put my money where my mouth is and invest in a program. While I’d been following other online gurus for years without ever clicking the buy button, Ramit had me signed, sealed and delivered within two weeks of reading his content.

Is Zero to Launch Worth It?

I might as well separate my lifetime into BZTL and AZTL – that is, Before ZTL and After.

The strategies I have learned through ZTL have completely transformed my life. Before ZTL, I knew I wanted to have a massive impact on the lives of others. I knew I wanted to have access to a lifestyle that the family generations before me did not have access to.

BUT I COULD NOT MAKE IT HAPPEN. I would go from idea to idea. I’d get inspired and then confused. Excited and then depressed. I couldn’t figure out how to get from where I was to where I wanted to be.

Zero to Launch  changed all of that.

I was finally able to understand the tactical steps to take that would my goals a reality. ZTL is a roadmap. If you trust the system and take action, you cannot fail. But it didn’t stop with my business. By investing in ZTL, I was making an investment in my self.

While I had a sense that ZTL would change the course of my professional life, I had no idea how profoundly I would be impacted in every other area of my life. It has been incredibly challenging and endlessly rewarding. The lessons I have learned have made a difference, not only my business, the program – the community – has also had a fundamental impact on who I am in the world – as a friend, a daughter and a therapist.

Do What You Love While REALLY Helping People

I’ve clearly made the case that ZTL is totally working for me, but it is not for everyone.

I’ve paid close attention to the patterns among those students who are successful and those who eventually give up. There are some clear differences between the types of people who ultimately succeed with the Zero to Launch system and those who decide it doesn’t work for them. Ramit is a master at sales copy, so of course it is easy to feel motivated and inspired when reading his emails. But I encourage you to really do some soul-searching to see if the program is right for you.

ZTL is Right for You If

No more holding back

You get to stand in your financial truth and feel empowered to unapologetically raise your rates

You're open to see a new perspective

You’re willing to trust that others might see more about you than you can see about yourself and then listen to them.

You have a vision

You have a clear vision of why you want to create your online business. You don’t need to know the how – Ramit will teach you – but you must know what you’re doing it all for because the road is long and without a clear vision, it’s hard to stay the course.

You're ready to put in the work

You’re willing to do the hard part, to invest your time into the arduous daily activities that really lead to lasting change once the glitz and glamour of the initial thrill is dead and gone.

ZTL is Not Right For

The Shiny Object Chaser

You hop from idea to idea, never fully following through with any one thing b/c the dream of your idea is more appealing than the hard work of actually achieving that dream.

The Faint of Heart

You must have a lot of emotional and psychological strength to do well in this program. If you shy away from real feedback and let fear dictate your actions, this program isn’t for you.

The Blamer

If you tend to blame other people and circumstances for your struggles in life, then you won’t do well here. This program works best for those who are willing to take responsibility, ask lots of questions and act on feedback, even if it’s hard.

The Disorganized

We’re all busy, but if you’re the kind of person who declares, “I’m too busy” when opportunities come your way, this program isn’t for you. ZTL is for people who know how to create the time for your business or at least are willing to learn how.

A Word Of Caution

Look, don’t get me wrong. Zero to Launch is not a walk in the park.

I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. As someone who comes from humble beginnings who is doing my best to work my way up the income ladder, there was a very steep learning curve for me. I had to learn to humble myself, ask for help and get comfortable with looking stupid – admitting that I didn’t even know what I didn’t know. For the first year of ZTL, I continued to run around like a headless chicken, not knowing exactly how to integrate the steps Ramit’s course taught.

The real change came for me when I joined the monthly Accelerator program. Accelerator gave me access to ongoing coaching, a huge and driven community and a place to get honest, direct and individual feedback about my business. Not only did I build an online community of super cool folks, but I have also discovered a community of cool, supportive and engaged people to hang out with in every city of the world!

Leveling up – living a rich life – it’s not really about the money. It’s about the people you meet, the lessons you learn, the person you become by virtue of striving to create something that no one in your family has ever done. Living a rich life is about learning how to be in the world in a powerful and impactful way. If you’re willing to take that challenge, the rewards are priceless.
